Welcome to Bulawayo Public Library
The idea to have a library -the first one in the town of Bulawayo at that time was mooted in march 1896 during the Imfazo -Matabele uprising .As many people flocked into town to seek protection there was a need to get to some place where one could sit in peace and have something to read. A foundation stone of the 8th Avenue /Fort Street site was laid on the 5th of November 1897 and the New present day Bulawayo Public Library was officially opened on 31 March 1898.
To provide the public with a unique and valuable service in the library and information science sector as well as to promote a reading culture to our young people.
